Tuesday December 14th
Long chat with Mary yesterday - she sounds great! May go home by the end of the week.
She is up and walking regularly and eating well.
She wants to start braiding again and has asked that Kate bring everything to the hospital so she can work on it.
Feel free to call her cell phone, she really needs to hear from each of us and appreciates having someone to talk to.

Sunday
Its tough to get to Mary today. With 17 inches of snow yesterday and brutal cold today, the roads are icey and hard to drive on.
Chad has been there - all is good. Kate is waiting to get plowed out.
As I watch the girls being pulled in a sled outside and the extreme amount of fun they are having, I am grateful for everything that is so good in our lives. Mary is on her way back to us and that will make for such a better holiday! Can't wait to see her again!

Mary is back on FB!
Mary actually played two moves in Lexulous today!!!
Had the chance to talk to her tonight and she sounds so much better!
Pretty soon I will have my friend back to our daily calls and constant games.
The girls are planning her Christmas gifts and we already have one. Mary, if you
see this, even Talia will not tell you what they are! :)

From Kate - Saturday December 11
Mom has a fever today it is 101.2, they gave her Tylenol and are going
to see if the can get her antibiotics extended. She was super chatty
last night but is a bit more tired today. They Changed out her drain
bag and it is yellow instead of red, they put in a new drain on her
back too and changed where her IV was. So she was poked and proded all
night long no wonder she is tired. Chad and I braved the snow storm.
They still say she is progressing well. Her viospasm numbers were up a
little yesterday but still low, I have not heard today's numbers. The
Dr. said that maybe late next week she could be coming home depending
on how things go.

Friday
Mary is no longer considered an ICU patient!!!! She is in the same room, but tested less frequently!
This is a great sign of her growing strength!
Hopefully fewer interruptions also help with her ability to get rest which is so important for her right now.
Kate, Rich and Chad are there caring for her and making sure she is eating and walking around.
Next step: remove spinal drain and then home.
Keep going Mary!

Yesterday in Kate's words..........
Mom had a really good day yesterday, She eat toast for breakfast,
yogurt for lunch and mashed potatos for dinner. She met with the
speech theripist and was given a gold star. She has been sitting in her
chair a bit and gave her physical tharipist a run for her money, the
little lady can't keep up with mom. We talked with the nurse in the
evening and she said mom is an exptional aneurysm case due to the amount
of stuff she is still able to do. That made me really happy and hopeful
about her recovery. Mom still sleeps alot but she seems more with it
when she is up. :-)

Mary had a good day today!
She devoured her dinner before Chad could take it and had her IVs removed.
No numbers for the vasospasms but they are still a risk.
She also walked a bit today which is sooooo important. We are so proud of her!
Your strength amazes us all! Keep pushing so we can bring you home!

Thursday December 9th
With each passing day our hope grows stronger. Mary is continuing to do well. Chad called to say that she had her routines tests this morning (results not yet received) and she ate a good breakfast. When I asked him what he did for dinner last night.....? He ate Mary's dinner. Really not one to let good food go to waste. Mary enjoyed a shake from her friend Kim Reinisch for dinner. Waiting for Kate's lunch visit for further updates. Really tough to be away from our girl today!

Final update for tonight
From both Kate and Chad....Mary had a good day. She is sleeping and still has some headache, which is normal.
Words from the NP
Rich and I had the chance to grill the NP today, she was so nice answering every question that we had.
Mary had a CT scan this morning and the results were good, can't visibly see the bleed spot anymore and the sacs filled with fluid are back to normal size.
Her heart is very strong and in good condition, which is important to push the fluids through the veins. They also removed a couple of tubes from her which made her a happy girl!
She has some fluid in her lungs so we are all encouraging her to breathe deep and do a little more sitting up. She has the nausea still, mostly from the swelling around the base of her brain and the neck. Neck rubs are encouraged and greatly appreciated by Mary!
Her numbers are up a bit on the vasospasm side and they are testing every morning for changes.
She likes her red gatorade, warm socks and blankets, and neck rubs right now. Encouraging words and hope give Mary the strength to keep pushing to both eat and sit up, both key elements in her recovery.

December 8th
Mary is resting well.
She is a bit nauseus again poor thing!
rich said they did an ultrasound this morning to check for vasospasms and it looked good.
There is so much noise here, you would seriously think they could do better.
Back home for me today to do some work and Chad will be here with our family.
Will post another update soon!

It's 9pm on Tuesday....
Mary had a pretty good day. She slept a lot and drank lots of Gatorade.
Her blood pressure was really good all day but she did get a bit of a fever this afternoon. She got some Tylenol for that and was perky again soon after. She even managed two bites of chicken and a bite of squash! My mom says that a fever three days post op is very common so we are doing ok. Mary also had an ultrasound of her heart today to ensure her brain is still sending it the right signals and there are no clots.
Mary had Rich, Brandi, Kate (x2!), and I today. She is always so grateful to us, but it is all of us here and those that wish they could be that are grateful to be with her!
Keep praying.....it's working!

How we got here
On Saturday December 4th, Mary complained to Rich of a very bad neck pain and asked for ice. She went to lie down and became Ill. At two in the morning Rich found that Mary was suffering a seizure and called 911. A CT scan revealed an aneurism and she was taken to St. joes in St Paul, where there is a very experienced team of neurologists. She was taken into surgery on Sunday afternoon and had a coil placed around the aneurysm. By six pm she was coherent and sassy, thankfully.
She is working hard today, the sixth, to drink fluids and has a headache. It's hard for her to get the west she needs....they are on her room checking her constantly. We are encouraged with every small step and ask for all your prayers for a full and speedy recovery. They are currently anticipating two weeks in the ICU, but that German stubbornness will get her going faster.
